APEXNasdaq 100 trading robot for MetaTrader 5

“A robot built for the Nasdaq 100 session: it buys genuine intraday breakouts, trails its stop behind the move and never keeps a position overnight.”

Architecture

How it works

Four stages, executed in the same order on every bar. No discretionary override.

  1. 01

    Noise area

Each day, the EA measures how far the Nasdaq usually moves from the open at each time of the session, over the last 14 days (intraday momentum model published by Zarattini, Aziz and Barbon, 2024).

  2. 02

    Entry

Every 30 minutes during the US session (9:30–16:00 New York), it buys if the price has left that area upwards.

  3. 03

    Position sizing

With the Standard profile (default), the size targets a daily volatility of 2% of equity, capped at 4 times the capital and at 2% of the balance at risk at the stop-loss. The Dynamic profile doubles these limits (4%, 8 times, 4%); the Max profile (high risk, max drawdown about 24% in simulated backtests) quadruples them (8%, 16 times, 8%). If the broker’s minimum position exceeds them, the EA skips the signal instead of rounding the position up.

  4. 04

    Management and exit

Stop-loss and take-profit are sent with the order, the stop then follows the move (noise boundary or VWAP), and everything is closed 5 minutes before the cash close.

Backtest, not a live result. MetaTrader 5 simulation on the history of an MT5 broker (standard account, no commission), 10,000 USD, default settings (2 % target volatility, 4x max leverage). Settings chosen on data up to the end of 2024, then tested on 2025-2026 (real ticks since June 2025); exception: APEX (buy only), kept after that period had been seen. Spread and swaps included; slippage not simulated.

Past performance, real or simulated, is not indicative of future results.

Capital

How much capital for APEX?

The capital you need depends on the minimum position your account accepts, not on the EA. Each row below is a simulated backtest of the same strategy over the same period: only the deposit and, for the variants, the risk setting change.

Simulated backtests · 2019–2026
  • 01

    Minimum position

Every broker sets a minimum position size. On the test account: Nasdaq 100, 0.1 lot = 0.1 index.

  • 02

    The rule

minimum capital ≈ loss of the minimum position at the stop ÷ risk per trade

With smaller minimum positions at your broker, the capital needed falls in proportion; with larger ones, it rises.

  • 03

The EA never forces a trade

If the capital is too small for the minimum position, the EA skips the signal instead of rounding the position up, and says so once a day in the MetaTrader 5 Experts log.

You can lose all of your capital.

Standard profile (default)

Default setting (InpRiskProfile = 1): 2% target volatility, 4x maximum exposure, at most 2% at risk at the stop.

Dynamic profile (InpRiskProfile = 2)

Higher risk

Same strategy, twice the exposure (InpRiskProfile = 2): 4% target volatility, 8x maximum exposure, at most 4% at risk at the stop. Higher risk: larger losses and deeper drawdowns. In the test started with 500 USD, 2025 was slightly negative: −12 USD, or −0.8% of the balance at the start of the year.

Max profile (InpRiskProfile = 3, high risk)

High risk

Same strategy, four times the exposure (InpRiskProfile = 3): 8% target volatility, 16x maximum exposure, at most 8% at risk at the stop. High risk: maximum drawdown of about 24% in these backtests, with far larger losses and drawdowns than the Standard profile. With 8 times the Standard exposure, the maximum drawdown reached 50.8% (about half the account, lost between mid-2024 and early 2026), so the Max profile stops at 4 times. Compatible with 1:20 leverage on major indices such as the Nasdaq 100; that leverage then ties up as much as 80% of equity as margin.

Trades taken since 2025: share of the trades the EA still takes at this capital since 1 January 2025, compared with the same test on 100,000 USD. Full: 95% or more. Partial: 70% to 95%. Insufficient: below 70%, the EA skips a large share of the signals and the result no longer represents the strategy: return and drawdown are not shown.

Simulated MetaTrader 5 backtests, test period Jan 2019 – Sep 2026, on the history of an MT5 broker (standard account, no commission), spread and swaps included. Returns are cumulative over the whole period, never annualised. Above 10,000 USD, percentage results barely change (tested up to 100,000 USD).

You can lose all of your capital. Past performance, real or simulated, is not indicative of future results.

FAQ

Questions

Can I lose all my capital?

Yes. Leveraged trading on indices can lead to the loss of all the funds you commit. Only commit money you accept to lose.

Does APEX use a martingale or a grid?

No. APEX places a stop-loss and a take-profit on every position and uses neither a grid nor a martingale: position size never increases to recover a loss.

What happens when the annual license ends?

APEX no longer opens new positions; positions already open keep their stop-loss and take-profit. There is no automatic billing: you renew for one year if you wish, or switch to the lifetime license.

What does +113% in backtest mean?

It is the result of a MetaTrader 5 simulation on past data, from January 2019 to September 2026, with the default settings (Standard profile) on a 10,000 USD account, with a maximum drawdown of 6.9%. Every calendar year was positive, but 2025 only slightly. Above 10,000 USD the result in % changes little (tested up to 100,000 USD). Past performance, real or simulated, is not indicative of future results.

Why does APEX lose more often than it wins?

About 28% of trades are winners in the backtest: many small losses when a breakout fails, fewer and larger gains when the move holds. Over the period, gains were 1.45 times the losses.

What is the difference between the Standard, Dynamic and Max profiles?

Same strategy, same signals: only the position size changes. The Standard profile (InpRiskProfile = 1, default) targets a daily volatility of 2% of equity, with at most 4 times the capital exposed and 2% of the balance lost at the stop-loss. The Dynamic profile (InpRiskProfile = 2) doubles these limits (4%, 8 times, 4%). The Max profile (InpRiskProfile = 3, high risk) quadruples them (8%, 16 times, 8%). In our simulated backtests 2019–2026 with 2,000 USD, the Standard profile returned +90.6% with a max drawdown of 6.4%, the Dynamic profile +329.7% with a max drawdown of 13.5%, the Max profile +1,873.7% with a max drawdown of 24.4% (high risk). The risk is clearly higher, and with the Dynamic profile 2025 was slightly negative in the test started with 500 USD (−12 USD, or −0.8% of the balance at the start of the year). With the Max profile, a 24% drawdown means losing about a quarter of the account from its peak; with 8 times the Standard exposure, the max drawdown reached 50.8% in backtest (about half the account, lost between mid-2024 and early 2026), which is why the Max profile stops at 4 times. Its maximum exposure of 16 times the capital is compatible with 1:20 leverage (the cap for retail accounts in the EU on major indices such as the Nasdaq 100), but then ties up as much as 80% of equity as margin. With InpRiskProfile = 0, the EA uses your own InpTargetVolPct, InpMaxLeverage and InpMaxRiskPct values, which are ignored otherwise. Past performance, real or simulated, is not indicative of future results.

What capital do I need?

It depends on the minimum position of your account at your broker, not on the EA. In our simulated MT5 backtests (2019–2026, an MT5 broker, standard account without commission, minimum position 0.1 lot = 0.1 × the Nasdaq 100 index), the default Standard profile takes 98% of its trades from 2,000 USD (+90.6%, max drawdown 6.4%), 80% at 1,000 USD (+72.9%, max drawdown 5.1%) and only 2% at 500 USD. The Dynamic profile takes 96% of them from 500 USD (+225.8%, max drawdown 11.3%) and all of them at 1,000 USD (+281.2%, max drawdown 12.9%), at a clearly higher risk. The Max profile (InpRiskProfile = 3, high risk) also takes almost all of them from 500 USD, with a max drawdown of 24.1%: it barely lowers the capital needed and mainly raises the risk. These shares of trades since 2025 are compared with a 100,000 USD account. The capital needed is roughly the loss of the minimum position at the stop-loss divided by the risk per trade: with a smaller minimum position at your broker it falls in proportion, with a larger one it rises. When capital is too small, the EA skips the signal and says so once a day in the MT5 Experts log; it never enlarges a position. You can lose all of your capital. Past performance, real or simulated, is not indicative of future results.

Does it work with my broker?

APEX needs the US cash session in your broker’s server time: 16:30 on most GMT+2/+3 servers. With another server time, set the session start in the inputs, as explained in the documentation.

Do I need programming skills to install it?

No. You copy the .ex5 file into MetaTrader 5, attach it to a NAS100 chart, check the session setting and choose the risk profile. Installation and configuration guides are included.

Can I get a refund?

No. No refund is possible once the download has started, as stated in the terms. Test the EA on a demo account before going live.
